How did you spend your Mother’s Day? The years are flying by…

Mother’s Day 2018 has come and gone. The years just seem to be flying by! I enjoyed another great Mother’s Day with my favorite people. My Mom & Dad were able to join us again this year for our annual Mother’s Day Brunch at Platte River State Park. Brent’s Dad, Randy also joined us this year. As always the food was amazing and the atmosphere is always incredible. We love our parks here in Louisville and feel very blessed that we have all of them so close to us to enjoy. The weather this year was a little different than past years as it was rainy, cloudy and only in the 50’s. We usually walk around the park and visit the horse barn or walk down by the water and find things to do. This year, not so much. We didn’t let that stop us from having a great morning though. We enjoyed a stop at Mrs. T’s ice cream shop on main street here in Louisville which my parents love to stop at when they are in the area. Very lucky that we have her shop here in our little town too. My folks left for the day after our stop for ice cream. I so enjoy that they can spend this special day with us every year.

The afternoon ended up being beautiful. The sun came out for a bit and the temps got up into the 70’s. I mentioned to Brent that all I wanted for this Mother’s Day was a few photos of me and our boys. We headed out to Schramm Park where there was a blooming tree so he could capture a few photos of me & the boys just laughing with one another and being ourselves. I have realized that time is flying by and I need to step in front of the camera more often so I can have them memories to cherish forever. Thankful that he was able to snap these photos for me. Thank you dear husband and boys for making this another great Mother’s Day. xoxo

I will cherish these photos forever.

My youngest graduates preschool today and my oldest graduates Kindergarten on Wednesday. The days just seem to be going faster every year. My mother always told me – the older you get the fast time goes by. She was so right. I remember quitting my corporate job to become a stay at home mom & full time photographer. They will both be in full time school in August. Hard to believe this time has already come. Cherish all of these precious years because they will be graduating high school before we know it!

xoxo – B.

Henry Extended Family – a Louisville, NE family session at their home

Saturday morning, the Henry family invited me out to photograph their extended family at their daughters’ home just outside of Louisville, NE. Tabitha (their daughter) and her family have been behind my lens the last couple of years so this time it was her whole family. Super fun group of people. Thank you all for allowing me to share this chilly, Saturday morning with you. We managed to snap some great photos in our short time together. Loved every minute of it!

How to enjoy Spring even though it doesn’t feel like it…yet and finding the good in every day. Now booking elopements/small, intimate weddings.

You guys! I know. This Spring is not good…yet. We have no green grass, no warm temps…nothing. We have all been so lucky the last few years with mild Winters and great Springs. Being an outdoor photographer, this is not good for business. This time last year, I had 16 photo sessions. I have had zero. I did have 1 wedding last weekend, but no outdoor family sessions or anything like that yet. I am SO ready to get out and shoot! I know a lot of us Midwestern folks are over-ready for it to turn green and warm up.

My New Year’s Resolution this year was to stay/be positive in every day life. Find the good in every day. So far this has been working amazing for me. There are bad days (everyone has them) but I always try and find a positive “thing” in every day. It could be the smallest thing – a smile from a stranger, a phone call from my parents, a bird perched on my bird bath, the sun shining, laughter from my boys….anything! Just finding that one little thing that makes my day a little happier on those not so good days has been such a great change in my attitude about my personal and professional life this year. So…with that being said, I am finding the good on these not so pretty Spring days that we have been having. Spring is near…and it will be amazing – we just have to be patient….very patient. Come on SPRING!

If you have been following along with my Facebook or receive my newsletters this year, you have heard me say that I am no longer doing weddings after this year. This was my thought process a couple of months ago as my boys are getting to the ages where they will be playing sports every weekend and I don’t want to miss out on their games or our weekend family time. After photographing my first wedding of the year last weekend, I’m not sure I can NOT do any weddings because I love them so much. I love capturing the love between two people and capturing the joy of their special day. With that being said, I will only be taking on elopements or very small, intimate weddings. I am wanting to hold on to the joy that I feel when I take photos at weddings so this is what I am going to offer as far as weddings go. If you are interested or have friends that you know are having this type of wedding then I would love for you (or your friends) to contact me for information and pricing. I have had so much joy photographing multiple weddings in California to multiple weddings in upstate New York to destination weddings in the Dominican Republic to small family farms around Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa. Golf courses, backyards or small, intimate venues. xoxo

I have also started a Lifestyle Blog just to have another creative outlet for myself. It’s been pretty fun just talking about mom life, recipes, fashion, home decor and just…life. If you would like to follow along with me on that journey I have just started a Facebook page (Life with Becky Jensen) and an instagram page (@lifewithbeckyjensen) and I have linked my Lifestyle Blog tab to this photography blog so you will see it on the front page or on the top menu. Would love for you to follow along!

I will leave you with a couple of photos of my boys from yesterday. It was a yucky Sunday, but…we made the most of it! (being positive.) Brent was making the boys paper airplanes, so I decided to try and remember how to make origami cubes. I did have to go to youtube to help me out a little bit but I did catch on fast and remembered how to make them and then the memories from the late 80’s to early 90’s came rolling back to me. My friends and I would play with these all the time. My boys absolutely loved them and played with them for 2.5 hours. So fun to see them enjoying these little fortune tellers/cubes. If you want to make your kids some I would suggest going to youtube and typing origami cubes or fortune tellers in the search bar. Super fun! ENJOY!

        Tori + Nic {Dominican Republic beach wedding}

Tori + Nic. Where do I start? I love these two. They have been a part of my life for years. I have photographed them at their prom, senior pics, both of their family sessions, snow session, engagement session and now their destination wedding in the Dominican Republic. They love one another so much and I hope you can see that in the photos I am about to post. They complete one another and I know these two will live a long happy loving life together. Congratulations to you both and thank you for letting me be a part of your life the last several years and for allowing me to share your special day with you both and all of your family & friends.

Their wedding took place at the Huracan Cafe in beautiful Punta Cana, DR on May 3rd. They had a 5:00PM ceremony on the beach surrounded by their favorite people. It was such a beautiful ceremony full of emotion and love. Nati (Natalia) the wedding coordinator on site did such a beautiful job making the decor so lovely and making Tori one happy bride with all of her hard work. Krystie Ann transformed the bridal party in to super models with her ability to bring out the beauty in all of the ladies so naturally. She is truly gifted. Manuel & Denis with Cores Films were their to document/video the entire day so they can relive this special time over and over again. Such a great day and a great group of vendors.

Tori & Nic wanted a day after session with me, so we took an hour the following day to have some fun on the beach and in the water. We were on the Melia Caribe Tropical beach and it was just so lovely. Ooozing love out of these two is one of my favorite things to document. Always a great time!

Now, here are some photos of these two love birds. I sure hope you can feel the emotion of the day in them. Love you both!

The “getting ready” area was so cute. The top was a white tent material and then there were actual walls. The walls were pink. So girly. Loved it!

Nic reading his letter that Tori wrote him. gah!

First Look with Dad! Love these moments so much! If you haven’t thought about having a first look with your Dad, I suggest that you do. So precious.

I was shedding tears at this moment. Love first looks!

        Family is everything!

        Wedding Party fun!

        Nic + Tori sitting in a tree….

…the sun starting to set. Love that milky light.

        Party Time!

        Day After Session.

        photo bomb!

I hope this blog post made you feel like you were right there with us. That is what I love photographing – the emotions, the moments, the love between these two and everyone!

          For the love of dogs…

Markie + Kirk wanted a session with their 2 dogs. During their engagement session last Fall, they only had Abel. They have since added Finley to their little family, so this session was to include him and ohmygoodness – how cute are they?!!

We had a very HOT evening out at Chalco Hills – it was a quick session, so we were good to go! Both dogs did so great and enjoyed walking around the park. Thank you Markie, Kirk, Abel & Finley for a great session! Stay cool! xo – B.
